Learn Irish

An entertaining and informative introduction to the gaelic language & heritage.  Aptly titled Cupla Focal meaning a couple of words! Our location in the heart of West Kerry Gaeltacht makes An Riasc the ideal place to begin learning a few words of Irish.  Gaelic is the first language of the house hold & so visitors have the added bonus of hearing Gaelic spoken regularly during the course of their stay.

The aim of this introductory course in Irish is to give the visitor to An Riasc B&B an opportunity to speak one of the oldest living languages in the world. It is still widely spoken in the heart of the Dingle Peninsula and it is the first language of our household. Thus guests have the added advantage of hearing the language regularly during course of their stay. This combined with fine food of highest standard, wonderful Irish hospitality & magnificent scenery gives the visitor a truly unique taste of traditional Ireland.

Course Content
• Salutations – Hello, goodbye
• Friendly Banter – How are you? Where are you from?
• Role Plays – In pub e.g. A pint of Guinness please!
• Place names – Irish place names are of huge significance as they give important information relating to the topography etc of an area e.g. cnoc in Irish means mountain. The anglicised Knock comes from cnoc . As all road signs on the Dingle Peninsula are in Gaelic, I reckon every visitor will benefit from this course! run by Denise (proprietor of An Riasc) a fluent Irish speaker with a masters degree in the Irish language.
